Alexander IV – Alchemist [Sonar Kollektiv]

Alexander IV is the alter ego of Dutch producer/multi-instrumentalist Joris Feiertag. You may be familiar with his club flavoured recordings under the name Feiertag. This debut finds him on a different path. Titled “Alchemist”, the thirteen track LP is filled with genre bending compositions fusing soul, electronica and afrobeat rhythms. The opening track “Touch of Gold” has a funky jazz sample punctuated by propulsive drum kick beats. “Now, Pause…” is an atmospheric soundscape of rhythms highlighted by Ursula Rucker’s poetic vocals. “Long Way from Home” is fuelled by afrobeat rhythms and the vocals of label mate Pete Josef. Feiertag demonstrates fluency in a myriad of styles. An engaging debut that merits repeated listens.

Soulparlor – Day By Day [Atjazz Record Company]

Frank Jensen and Tobias Muller aka Soulparlor have been crafting infectious dance tracks and soul recordings for well over a decade. The Mainz based duo have worked with an array of underground musicians from Erik Rico, Rogiers and many more. The disc kicks off with “Pull Me Close” where vocalist Leona Berlin’s sultry vocals are layered over a mellow piano melody. UK bruk don Colonel Red takes the baton and follows suit with the mid-tempo burner “Day By Day”. “Splentay 4 Ya” is a broken beat banger filled with spacey synths and the funky vocals of Amalia. From their earlier recordings to this one, Soulparlor have proven to have the magic touch. Their soulful electronic recordings are always on fire and this release is no exception.

Go.Soul.Map – Peaceful Sound for Broken Minds [Space Echo]

“Peaceful Sound for Broken Minds” is the debut from Sicilian producer Salvo ‘Dub’ Bruno aka Go Soul Map. The twelve track lp is filled with dreamy soundscapes layered over warm melodic grooves. “Back In The Underwater”, the opening track features the sultry vocals of Reiwa Pia. It’s a downtempo gem heighthened by warmsynths. London based vocalist Derane Obika appears on nine tracks. “Fall Into The Flame” features Obika’s dreamy falsetto aligned with heavenly synths. While the tempo picks up on “Right Of Me”, Bruno’s production along with Obika’s vocals ensure that the mood remains the same. Bruno has created a marvelous record filled with warmth and is certain to put your mind at ease. I’m instantly transported to a place free of stress and full of engaging grooves.
